Over half of adults admit to spending more than £400 a week while on holiday, according to a new survey.
The poll, conducted by YouGov on behalf of Ramada Worldwide, found that this spending came after shelling out over £1,000 on booking flights and accommodation.
Two per cent of men and three per cent women manage to keep their spending to under £100 a week, with almost half of Britons spending more than £40 just to get to the airport.
"Our research confirms that holidaymakers are faced with rising costs on all fronts," commented Huibert Evekink, EMEA marketing director for Wyndham Hotel Group International.
The research comes shortly after the Post Office claimed that travellers could save money to fund extra yearly trips abroad by budgeting carefully while on holiday.
It suggested that using payment methods such as a pre-paid currency card could help to keep spending levels down and allow holidaymakers to keep track of how much money they are parting with.
