Britons
flying to New York will welcome the announcement that
Delta Air Lines has received permission to begin selling seats for its new daily flights from Gatwick Airport to the Big Apple.
The round-trip flights will begin on November 16th and will fly to and from the John F Kennedy International Airport everyday.
Although final approval of the route is yet to be obtained, travellers can buy tickets now.
"We are delighted that the US department of transportation has acted so quickly to allow Delta to begin marketing our new service on the world's most popular international route," said Glen Hauenstein, executive vice president of network and revenue management for the airline.
"Our customers in New York and connecting points beyond have long awaited the addition of nonstop Delta service between
London and our fast-growing hub at JFK and we are eager to introduce customers to our newest trans-Atlantic route this November."
The flights will be operated using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft capable of carrying 214 passengers.
In the winter, Delta will operate seven peak-day flights between the US and the UK.
