Looking for a far-flung alternative to the Blackpool Illuminations? Then travel to
Toronto for the city's 40th annual Cavalcade of Lights this winter.
This award-winning festival sees the city light up in spectacular fashion through a series of displays, events and tours between November 18th and December 17th.
Individual neighbourhoods start the proceedings by putting up swathes of lights in their locality, but it isn't until November 25th that the festival begins in earnest with the First Lighting Celebration at Nathan Phillips Square.
This date brings the first illumination of the festival's main display, which consists of around 100,000 lights and this year's official Christmas tree for
Toronto.
The evening continues with a number of live acts and a stunning fireworks display, which is replicated in further fireworks nights throughout weekends in December.
With
Toronto set to play host to numerous events for all the family throughout the duration of the festival, travellers will find something to see and do, whatever their tastes.
See the
city of Toronto website for further details.
