German airline
Lufthansa has announced that from the end of October, every other seat in business class on its regional flights will be left free for added comfort and privacy.
All German domestic and European flights will feature the ground-breaking new strategy, according to Lufthansa.
Already the airline has been leaving the middle seat free in business class on its short and medium-range aircraft since 2004.
Lufthansa has already expanded its fleet with 12 Bombardier CRJ900s.
Recently, Lufthansa has denied widespread rumours that it is to buy
SAS, with a Lufthansa spokesman calling the theory "sheer speculation".
A newspaper interview with the Lufthansa chief executive, Wolfgang Mayrhuber, first sparked conjecture that Lufthansa was to buy the Scandinavian airline.
The nation of
Sweden owns a 21 per cent share in SAS, but would be willing to sell it for the right price, reports Reuters.
SAS is a member of the Star Alliance, as is Lufthansa.
