Travellers looking for fun for all the family should hop on a
flight to New Zealand for the annual Festival of Lights in New Plymouth.
Taking place between December 17th and February 11th, the festival sees the city's Pukekura Park become decorated with magical lights to provide a captivating location for weeks of entertainment.
Events include skateboarding, scavenger hunts, face painting, fire poi dancers, parades, boating and more.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to
New Zealand every year to take part in the festivities, which date back to 1957 when lights were first installed in one of the park's lakes to commemorate the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II.
The festival won the title of Creative New Zealand's premier cultural festival and arts event last year, indicating that this is one event families cannot afford to miss.
For more information, see the
New Plymouth Council website.
