The number of people travelling from
Australia to overseas destinations jumped by 2.1 per cent in August, according to new figures.
Over 8,200 extra trips were made by Australians during the month, with leisure trips up by five per cent and business trips up by one per cent, says travel research firm asmal.
New Zealand proved to be a particular popular destination for travellers, as well as the UK,
Thailand,
China and
Singapore also seeing significant increases in Aussie holidaymakers.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, travellers from New Zealand also favoured Australia with more visits, driven by people going to see friends or family.
A number of other surveys have recently revealed that Australia comes top of many travellers' lists.
Thomas Cook recently found that the country is one of the top five destinations for holidaymakers from
India, with 76 per cent of respondents favouring international travel on the whole.
