Want to spend the winter somewhere that has summer year-round? Try
flying to the Canary Islands for its annual music festival between January 7th and March 2nd.
This sprawling event primarily takes place on the islands of
Tenerife and
Gran Canaria, with each locality hosting its own seven weeks' worth of entertainment.
Artists and orchestras flock from across the globe to play at the Canary Islands Music Festival, with 2007's event bringing musicians from
the Netherlands,
Germany and
Finland, among other countries.
While the festival features many established names from the world of classical music, it also places importance on giving new artists a chance to shine, promoting contemporary works from both the
Canary Islands and further afield.
For those visiting some of the other islands over the winter, a number of concerts also take place across other regions of the
Canary Islands, including
Lanzarote,
La Palma and
Fuerteventura.
Have a look at the
Canary Islands Music Festival website for further details of the event's programme.
