Soak up some Italian culture and travel to
Milan for the Oh Bej! Oh Bej! fair, the city's popular celebration of St Ambrose.
Local legend has painted the saint as 'honey-tongued' and therefore particularly friendly with bees, with some stories suggesting that a swarm of the insects once landed on his face without a single one stinging him.
The four-day event takes place in early December and highlights the life of Milan's patron saint with a Christmas market near the basilica of St Ambrose, which sells sweets and other local products that delight both children and adults alike.
Visitors to
Milan can gorge on doughnuts, chestnuts and pancakes from morning to night, as well as shop for antiques and enjoy street performances from various buskers.
Opera fans can also take the opportunity to check out the opening of La Scala's new season, which happily coincides with the Oh Bej! Oh Bej! celebrations.
