Emirates has announced the launch of new routes to
Tunis and
Bangalore.
It has also added flights to its
New York and
Zurich paths.
The airline's announcement marks the addition of 27 flights in total, equivalent to 7,500 extra passenger seats and 400 tonnes of cargo.
It celebrated the occasion with performances from traditional Tunisian and Indian dancers at Dubai International Airport and free chocolates for its passengers.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, executive vice president of commercial operations worldwide for
Emirates, noted that global air travel is growing strongly.
"An unprecedented economic and tourism boom in the Middle East is also fuelling traffic growth, with the region's international passenger air traffic expanding at an average annual rate of 6.9 per cent until 2010, outstripping growth in all other regions," he added.
"To serve this escalating demand, Emirates too must keep pace and race ahead with its network and capacity expansion programme."
Last week, the airline also announced the opening of a dedicated luxury lounge at Heathrow Airport for its premium and frequent flyer customers.
