Travellers looking to continue celebrating after New Year's Eve should head to
Los Angeles for the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena on January 1st.
This parade is watched by tens of millions of viewers on television and features an array of florally-decorated floats, marching bands and horseback displays.
One of the floats holds a group of women collectively known as the Royal Court. Every year, thousands of females compete to be one of the seven specially selected to sit in the float.
The title of Rose Queen is given to one lucky court member, with the others becoming known as Rose Princesses.
After the two-hour parade, public attention switches to the Rose Bowl football game, a contest between two of the best college football teams in the country.
Visitors to
Los Angeles for this big event can also take an official tour, consisting of accommodation, sightseeing, pre-booked seats for the game and more.
For more information, see the
Tournament of Roses website.
