British Airways has announced the launch of a new flat bed for its business class passengers.
The bed is 25 per cent wider than the current version and features privacy screens, a secure locker for personal items and larger entertainment screens.
This new bed comes as part of the airline's £100 million revamping of its Club World offerings and includes improvements to its first class cabins.
"We are giving our customers what they want - not gimmicks and gadgets - but an environment that is comfortable, flexible and private, with service that anticipates their every need," commented Willie Walsh, chief executive of
British Airways.
The announcement has been praised by a number of experts, with Avmark consultant Daniel Solon calling the new offering "a plus" for passengers needing to sleep while flying.
British Airways employed the services of design agency Winkreative to formulate its new "classically British" Club World interiors.
