Celebrate the accordion in Vienna

Celebrate the accordion in Vienna
It may not be a stalwart of modern pop music, but the accordion has its fans and every year many of them travel to Vienna to convene at the International Accordion Festival.

This month-long event begins in February and features a wide array of unique performances featuring this odd instrument.

Some of the world's leading accordion artists attend this festival to give large-scale performances to rapturous audiences, while other musicians take the opportunity to use the accordion in many genres of music, including traditional folk ditties to more unusual uses in punk and tango.

Visitors to this Vienna event are also able to get hands-on with the instrument and attend numerous workshops and exhibitions hosted by experts.

The festival gives travellers a good opportunity to sample some of the finest music venues in Vienna, as well as experience the other sights and sounds of this historic city.
