Nearly two-thirds of all
US airports offer public Wi-Fi services, according to a new survey.
Of these services, 73 per cent are located at large airports, while 45 per cent are situated at smaller hubs, the research by wireless internet provider Sky-Nets revealed.
The firm urged more airports to offer public Wi-Fi services as the rapid rate of technology development means that more devices are set to become equipped with Wi-Fi features.
"Even the average consumer and self-proclaimed computer illiterates are looking for Wi-Fi just about everywhere they go," commented Eric Geier, founder and president of Sky-Nets.
"Along with the traditional devices (laptops and PDAs), many other gadgets are currently or soon to be Wi-Fi equipped, such as mobile phones, gaming devices like the PlayStation Portable, digital cameras and MP3 players, just to name a few."
Delta Air Lines recently announced that it is equipping Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with download stations that allow owners of the Nintendo DS gaming console to wirelessly obtain free demos.
