Increasing numbers of Britons are flying abroad for their weddings, according to new research.
About 57 per cent of respondents to a poll by First Choice said they would consider staging their wedding overseas, reports Easier.com.
The travel firm found that those who had already tied the knot abroad paid an average of £520 for their wedding, compared with £11,000 in the UK.
Popular destinations for those who have got married overseas included
Greece,
Barbados,
Mexico, the
Dominican Republic and
Brazil.
"The great British weather can put a dampener on a wedding day but by getting married abroad, you almost guarantee sunshine (apart from if you choose somewhere like Lapland) and don't have to worry about spoiling your lovely dress," commented Cheryl Powell, managing director of First Choice Retail.
Last month, British events firm Confetti told the Herald that Britons are increasingly opting for overseas weddings as a result of media coverage of celebrity weddings abroad.
