Budget travellers 'to be cautious in 2007'

Holidaymakers flying on a tight budget are set to stick to familiar destinations next year, according to new research.

Figures from HostelBookers.com have revealed that more travellers are searching for accommodation in London during 2007 than any other location.

Cities such as Amsterdam, New York, Paris and Barcelona also feature high in budget travellers' lists for next year.

However, Britons still intend to fly to more distant shores, including Bangkok and Buenos Aires.

"This is clear indication that while there's still a very strong sense of adventure out there, most travellers on a budget will be playing it safe next year with well known, familiar destinations," commented David Smith, managing director of HostelBookers.com.

Last month, the Association of British Travel Agents published figures indicating that bookings for flights to long-haul destinations are rising sharply.
