United Airlines has released details of its brand new first-class seat for international widebody flights.
Dubbed the United First Suite, the seat includes a width increase of almost three inches and the capability to recline to different angles or lie flat and serve as a six-foot bed.
A 15.4-inch widescreen flat panel monitor will offer on-demand digital video and music, while first-class passengers will also be able to listen to more than 3,000 songs from a jukebox created under the XM brand.
Passengers will also be able to benefit from the recently announced agreement with Apple, whereby travellers can connect their iPods to the inflight entertainment system and listen to or watch content, as well as recharge their batteries.
"Our premium customers have told us what would make them more relaxed and comfortable, and we're using their feedback to shape our new first class products and services," commented Graham Atkinson, executive vice president and chief customer officer for
United Airlines.
"Our goal is to improve space, amenities and services, so we can enhance the entire international premium travel experience on United, from check-in to arrival."
The $165 million (£84 million) upgrade will commence during the fourth quarter of 2007.
