US Airways has announced a series of new flights set to take off from
Philadelphia to continental
Europe.
From May and June, new services will launch between the city and
Athens,
Brussels and
Zurich.
As a result, the airline will provide 22 daily flights to 19 cities in 12 European countries over the busy summer holiday season, it said.
"These three new European destinations strengthen Philadelphia's growing role as an international gateway for business and leisure passengers," commented Doug Parker, chairman and chief executive officer of
US Airways.
He added: "These new destinations demonstrate our commitment to our customers, our Philadelphia hub, and European and international growth prospects."
Currently,
US Airways offers about 3,800 flights per day across
America,
Canada, Europe,
the Caribbean and
Latin America.
About 430 of these are non-stop flights that operate from Philadelphia to 112 destinations across the globe.
