Thinking of
flying to Sydney for a break? Make sure your trip coincides with the 75th anniversary of the city's Harbour Bridge - as huge festivities are in the offing.
On March 18th, numerous events will mark this milestone in the style of the bridge's original opening party in 1932. The bridge will be closed for its longest period of time while thousands of revellers walk across from one end to the other.
During the walk, the Bridge Soundscape will relay the history of the bridge in audio form to all of the participants, with a co-ordinated spectacle involving a wide range of sea vessels and aircraft also taking place at the same time.
Elsewhere in Sydney Harbour, families will be able to take their own highly decorated boats out and see the party from the water, while Darling Harbour and The Rocks play host to celebrations taking place in restaurants and bars.
Visitors to
Sydney can also witness a sacred Aboriginal ceremony that pays tribute to the bridge and past generations who have lived at both ends of it, with smoke being emitted to cleanse those who walk over it during the celebrations.
