Travellers from Wales will soon have access to a wider range of destinations, according to press reports.
Cardiff International Airport is set to open up a new range of long-haul and local destinations, with the
US and
Middle East identified as potential targets, the Western Mail reports.
The move is set to build upon the success of its
Canada route, which has seen a ten per cent increase in traffic over the last year.
Peter Phillips, a spokesman for
Cardiff International Airport, said: "The airport has started the second phase of a £10 million investment programme designed to support double digit growth in 2007."
He added that, while not anticipating the achievement of three million passengers in 2007, a significantly higher number of airlines and increased flight frequency is expected.
Cardiff International Airport states that it achieved its two million passenger target in 2006, despite inclement weather before Christmas.
