London City Airport's competition to find the best young aircraft designers has announced its four winners.
The children, aged between four and six, have been named as Ileri Oyefesobi from Slivertown, Sofia Iqbal from Beckton, Oyinlola Adesida from Barking and Eni Ayodele also from Barking.
Participating children were given an aerodynamic design brief which challenged them to draw up plans for an aircraft suitable to operate at
London City Airport. The design had to focus on passenger comfort and the flying experience.
Community relations manager at the airport, Elizabeth Hegarty, said that the competition results were "impressive".
"The creativity and complexity of the children's designs demonstrated that we were working with designers and engineers of the future," she said.
One of the winners, Sofia Iqbal, said that she had enjoyed designing her brightly-coloured aeroplane which was designed to ensure it could be seen by other pilots.
"My design for a new plane cares about the environment, which is very important," she added.
Last week, to mark Citizenship Week, children were invited to attend London City Airport to learn about job opportunities there.
