Advancement made in boarding technology
Scottish companies have developed a new virtual boarding pass - potentially eliminating the need for the paper format in future.

In a move to cut waiting time at airports and remove the need for passes which could potentially be lost, Real Time Engineering and Mobiqa plan to use mobile phones and other handheld systems to carry the information.

The RT-MobiTicket system will use a barcode, which can be displayed on screen and read by scanners in the airport.

Iain McCready, Chief Executive Officer of Mobiqa, commented: "We're excited to be partnered with Real Time to deliver this technology to the aviation sector."

He added that the barcode standardisation already existent within the industry means that it is "ideal" for the application of this new technology.

Real Time Engineering currently offers the RT-scan system, which uses 2D barcodes on paper which can then be scanned - eliminating the need for "costly" magnetic technology.
