Passengers planning to take a journey from
Leeds-Bradford Airport will now be able to use a new shuttle service from York.
Airport officials hope that the transport, which costs £12 for a single or £17 for a return with cheaper options online, will offer a boost to the region's tourism, the York Press reports.
Before the shuttle was introduced, travellers needed to take a train from York to Leeds, then a half-hourly bus service - a total journey of around 90 minutes - compared with 55 minutes for the new system.
Gillian Cruddas, York tourism chief, said that the service was "one of the most exciting pieces of news we have had for years".
She added that millions of pounds could be generated in tourism and business.
A recent study found that
Leeds-Bradford Airport could become the number one choice for Yorkshire businessmen if transport links were improved, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.
