Lufthansa is considering introducing a voluntary fee that passengers can pay to help fight climate change, according to reports.
The airline said that it is looking at proposals for a climate protection fee that would help to offset the carbon produced by its flights, reports Reuters.
A spokesman for
Lufthansa told the news agency that, if given the green light, the fee could go into effect later in 2007.
"We want to make our customers a voluntary offer for climate-neutral travel," he commented.
The fee would go towards climate protection schemes taking place in emerging and developing countries, he added.
Lufthansa also announced today that it has won an award for its fuel management strategy from the Armbrust Aviation Group.
The carrier was ranked in first place for seven of the eight award categories available, including best staff, attention to quality and operations, and most innovative.
