A survey of American travel agents has revealed that the UK's
Heathrow Airport is seen as the best in the world in terms of family-friendliness.
The poll by the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) revealed that outside of
the US, the London-based hub is viewed as being most convenient for families because of its baby feeding and changing rooms, age-specific play areas, free colouring books and gaming facilities.
Schipol Airport in
Amsterdam, Frankfurt Airport,
Gatwick Airport and Singapore Changi made up the rest of the top five.
In the US, the best hub for those with young children was believed to be Orlando International Airport.
"With the emphasis on families, more and more parents are choosing to take their children with them, not just to see grandma, but on international vacations," commented Cheryl Hudak, president and chief executive of ASTA.
"Anyone who has travelled with small children knows what a life-saver a family-friendly airport can be."
Last year's World Airport Awards saw Singapore Changi take the title of 2006 Airport of the Year, with Munich Airport being voted the best European airport.
More than seven million surveys were completed for the awards.
