Holidaymakers urged to cover cancellations

Britons heading off on holiday this summer have been advised to make sure they are protected against the possibility of cancellations.

Insurer More Than claims that last summer saw travellers waste about £6 billion by cancelling holidays without adequate travel insurance.

According to the firm, these cancellations can mean that holidaymakers have to pay for accommodation and flights that they are unable to use.

However, travel insurance can help to cover these costs, particularly in cases where breaks are cancelled due to emergencies such as illness and bereavement.

"We encourage travellers to arrange their insurance at the same time as they book their break to ensure they'll be covered if anything goes wrong before the trip," commented Keira Clark, head of travel insurance for More Than.

A recent analysis by finance website MoneyExpert.com revealed that credit card travel accident cover has increased by about £23,000 in the last ten months on average.
