Fancy a break brimming with culture this summer? Try hopping on a
flight to Lisbon for the Festas dos Santos Populares between June 1st and 30th.
Also known as the Feast Days of the Popular Saints, this spectacular month-long celebration sees the city become strewn with colourful lights and decorations to honour the lives of St Antonio, St John and St Peter.
Parades are an important part of this event, with June 12th seeing the streets of
Lisbon packed with spectators for a massive parade in honour of St Antonio, reports Whatsonwhen.com.
Locals swap basil pots and paper carnations with poems written on them and throw party after party for friends and relatives through the night.
The saints' days are also celebrated elsewhere in
Portugal, including
Porto and Montijo - providing a potential opportunity for holidaymakers to take a tour of the country.
