Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced the launch of a new carbon offsetting scheme for passengers on its flights.
The carrier has said that customers can now make a donation to a number of sustainable development projects via its website to help offset the carbon produced by its air services.
A typical price of €4.50 (£3.07) was given for a flight between Scandinavia and certain destinations in the rest of
Europe.
"We are delighted to be able to offer our customers this possibility. It is part of the SAS Group's environmental strategy and is a suitable complement to the primary mechanisms in the Kyoto Protocol," commented Mats Jansson, president and chief executive of SAS.
The airline operates a number of short and long-haul flights across the globe, with those taking off from the UK flying to destinations such as
Denmark,
Finland,
Norway and
Sweden, among others.
