Officials at
Liverpool Airport have indicated that they are seeking to strike a deal with a major European airline to open up the city to the world.
The airport is aiming to offer hub services that will allow passengers to transfer directly between flights and avoid having to check in multiple times.
Reports suggest that Liverpool Airport is looking to expand services to destinations such as
Germany, the
Netherlands and
Paris.
"This has become one of our major projects, something we see as important as the airport grows. Liverpool is the only major city not to have a hub service that offers worldwide connections," commented Neil Pakey, managing director of Peel Airports, the owner of Liverpool Airport.
The airport currently operates more than 60 flights a day to a number of destinations and is soon set to launch direct
flights to Canada and
New York.
