New research has revealed the top destinations in
Europe for those considering a city break abroad.
The report from tourism association European Cities Marketing shows that locations such as
Dubrovnik in Croatia,
Tallinn in Estonia and
Ljubljana in Slovenia have seen the biggest growth in tourists in recent years.
More traditional destinations such as
Berlin,
Barcelona and
Prague have also enjoyed significant growth since 2000, racking up 550,000 more hotel bookings a year, ECM said.
"Ease of access and heavy-hitting marketing campaigns have helped these cities to establish their leading position in Europe's city break market," a spokesman for ECM told TravelMole.
Recent figures from the Civil Aviation Authority indicated nearly three per cent more Britons took a flight to destinations in the UK and overseas last year than in 2005.
The most popular flights were those travelling to locations across Europe, the research found.
