Air travel booms in February

Air travel booms in February
Demand for flights worldwide grew by 6.1 per cent in February, according to new figures.

Statistics from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have revealed that passenger demand saw significant growth compared with January, as well as a rise of 6.8 per cent compared with the same time last year.

Demand was strongest in the Middle East with an 18 per cent increase in February, followed by Europe with growth of 7.4 per cent, North America with 6.9 per cent and Asia with 5.7 per cent.

"Passenger demand continues to exceed expectations. And over two years of improving load factors are proof that airlines are more efficiently meeting demand," commented Giovanni Bisignani, director-general and chief executive of the IATA.

Earlier this month, figures from the Civil Aviation Authority indicated that almost three per cent more Britons passed through airports in the UK during 2006 compared with the previous year.
