Travellers urged to prepare for Easter flights

Travellers urged to prepare for Easter flights
Officials at Gatwick Airport have advised travellers to be as prepared as possible for the busy Easter weekend.

More than 600,000 Britons are expected to use the hub between April 5th and 10th as holidaymakers take advantage of the long weekend.

April 5th is set to be the busiest day for the airport - more than 100,000 people are expected to jet off on this date to destinations such as Geneva, Edinburgh, Dublin, Amsterdam and Barcelona.

As a result, holidaymakers should make sure they are familiar with current rules and restrictions regarding baggage and hand luggage.

Gatwick Airport managing director Andy Flower said the airport is undertaking initiatives to help procedures go smoothly over the busy period.

"We have focused on ensuring that the basics work more efficiently this season, through the investment in additional security personnel and on starting the work to increase the security processing areas," he commented.

Last week, BAA chief executive Stephen Nelson announced that the operator is intending to increase investment in security and congestion reduction across all of its airports.

While there's no doubt that the train represents a convenient way of getting around, questions persist over the ability of the rail service to cope with growing demand while keeping fares relatively inexpensive. Can flying provide a viable alternative to using the UK's railways?
