Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced its intention to launch flights to
Aalesund in western
Norway from
Gatwick Airport this summer.
The services will begin on June 1st and will operate two times a week, adding to current SAS routes to Scandinavia from
London City Airport and
Heathrow Airport.
Passengers will be able to fly to Aalesund onboard 124-seater Boeing 737 aircraft in economy extra class as well as the standard economy cabin, designed to appeal to those looking for a more business class-style service.
"This new service from Gatwick will complement our existing Norwegian services to Bergen and provide travellers with a quick and easy way to get to the breathtaking fjords," commented Lars-Ove Filipson, UK and Ireland general manager for
SAS.
Aalesund is a sea port spread over seven islands and boasts attractions such as the Geirangerfjord, the Hjorungfjord and the mountainous area of Trollstigen Road.
