The European parliament is to support legislation to cut the cost of making mobile calls from overseas.
Yesterday, the parliament's industry, research and energy committee said that it will push through the laws and help travellers to make cheaper calls when abroad in the EU.
The move has been greeted positively by a number of entities, with Rob Barnes, head of mobile phones for price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, calling the news "extremely welcome".
He added: "The final legislation cannot come soon enough for mobile phone users who are fed up with paying way over the odds to make and receive calls."
Mr Barnes advised holidaymakers to get a local country or global Sim card for their phones until the new laws come into effect in order to avoid being stung by high roaming charges.
According to research from SimplySwitch.com, three-quarters of mobile owners in the UK do not currently know how much they are paying for making calls from abroad.
