Building work to extend the main terminal building of
Stansted Airport will start this week.
The £40 million extension will open in June next year, with all work due to be finished in December 2008, reports the East Anglia Daily Times.
Passengers will benefit from a bigger international arrivals area, more baggage carousels and extra capacity for transport from the airport.
According to airport operator BAA, the hub will also become more environmentally-friendly through the use of biomass boilers.
"We are committed to providing the best possible airport experience at Stansted, and this significant investment will create additional space and facilities that will benefit both passengers and business partners alike," commented Nick Barton, business development and planning director at BAA Stansted.
A £2 million security extension was completed at the airport towards the end of last month, providing extra security x-ray machines, security lanes and entry points.
