Airlines cancelled numerous flights yesterday as rain and strong winds continued to prevail in the north-east
US.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled on Sunday and more were grounded on Monday by airlines such as
Delta,
American Airlines and Northwest Airlines, according to Reuters.
The flights affected included those at the three airports in
New York, which has been subjected to particularly bad flooding. Some airlines had made alternative travel arrangement for their passengers by the end of yesterday.
It is anticipated that airport operations will begin to recover from today. Delays should still be expected by travellers looking to fly, however, as bad weather is still prevalent across parts of the north-east.
The Federal Aviation Administration is advising passengers to check with their airlines before leaving to catch a flight.
Elsewhere, Teterboro Airport in New Jersey is still closed due to severe flooding.
