Britons heading abroad are increasingly benefiting from the availability of cash machines in their chosen holiday destinations, according to one expert.
Despite the relatively high cost of using credit and debit cards overseas, these products, together with ATMs, make it much easier for travellers to manage their money when on holiday, says Sean Tipton of the Association of British Travel Agents.
"Since the introduction of ATMs it has made getting money out abroad so much easier," he remarked.
"In the past you had to take travellers cheques - which is still a good idea for protection issues - or [take] large amounts of currency with you."
However, Britons should still ensure they are getting the best deals possible when it comes to taking out money abroad, as the issue of charges and fees is still as relevant to ATMs as it is to using plastic to make purchases and finding the best exchange rate, he added.
The Post Office recently released research findings suggesting that holidaymakers should look at the overall cost of essential goods in their chosen destination, as well as taking exchange rates into account.
