E-tickets 'provide greater security'

E-tickets 'provide greater security'
The adoption of electronic ticketing (e-ticketing) technology is providing a greater level of security and convenience for passengers, according to a new report.

Having seen its own level of airline bookings issued as e-tickets increase significantly, Abacus International has claimed that the industry is on course to meet the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) targets.

Don Birch, president and chief executive officer at the firm, said: "The surge in electronic ticketing is a positive indication towards the achievement of IATA's goal of 100 per cent electronic ticketing by the end of 2007."

E-tickets provide both a "secure and convenient" system for customers, in addition to delivering significant cost benefits for airlines, he added.

According to the IATA, e-tickets ought to enable easier handling of itinerary changes, make more use of the internet for booking and check-ins, and should ensure that passengers no longer need to worry about lost tickets.
