Offering around 100 airlines flying to 225 destinations,
Manchester Airport provides passengers with more choice than any other UK airport, according to the Manchester Airports Group (MAG).
Speaking to the Financial Times, Geoff Muirhead, chief executive of the group, said that the airport is having a positive impact on the local economy by attracting large companies to the area.
The firm predicted that the airport would be Britain's second most popular in terms of passenger numbers within 15 years, behind London
Heathrow.
However, according to Mr Muirhead, limited capacity may mean action will need to be taken if the airport is to expand to achieve its target of 50 million passengers by 2030, from its current level of 28 million.
In related news, Mr Muirhead recently said that the firm's support of the north-west's arts projects should help to make Manchester a "destination for tourism in its own right".
