British Airways has announced that it is to increase the fuel surcharge on its long-haul flights from tomorrow.
The airline said that recent changes in oil prices will result in the surcharge rising to £66 for a return flight less than nine hours long and £76 for return flights longer than nine hours from May 2nd.
Similar increases will be put in place in the carrier's international markets. Fuel surcharges for short-haul flights will stay at the £16 point for return journeys.
British Airways commercial director Robert Boyle said that the rise is "regrettable" and that fuel costs had increased by a significant amount in the past few weeks.
"We believe the fuel surcharge continues to be the most transparent way for our customers to understand what they are paying and allows us to adjust the direct cost to our customers appropriately, whether that is increasing or reducing the fuel surcharge as we did on some of our long-haul flights in January," he added.
The airline slashed fuel surcharge rates on its shorter long-haul flights to £60 per return trip in January of this year as a result of falls in oil prices.
