An increase in the number of travellers journeying to
the USA has been announced by the country's department of commerce.
The figures show that 3.1 million people in total visited the USA in January this year, up five per cent over the same period last year.
British travellers made up 41 per cent of all western European visitors to the region during the month, with western European arrivals rising by three per cent in total compared with January 2006.
Holidaymakers travelling to
the USA from overseas were also found to spend more on their breaks at the destination, shelling out a total of $9.26 billion (£4.6 billion) - an increase of four per cent over last year's figure.
Sean Tipton of the Association of British Travel Agents recently claimed that a significant number of British travellers are set to make the journey over the Atlantic this summer in order to take advantage of the favourable exchange rate between the pound and the dollar.
