Holidaymakers heading to
Tokyo this summer should make sure they do not miss one of the most spectacular events to be seen in the city.
July 29th will see the Sumida River Fireworks Festival take place on the banks of the Sumida River, an event that attracts over one million spectators every year.
The festival was first established in 1733 in memory of the victims of the famine of 1732 and has been held on a regular basis since 1978.
Visitors to
Tokyo will be able to see a mixture of traditional fireworks displays and new, contemporary displays across two different sites by the river.
Travellers wanting to get a bit closer to the action can take a trip in yakatabune houseboats in the tradition of attendees who did the same back when the festival first began.
Elsewhere in
Tokyo, tourists can take in a number of art museums, traditional and modern Japanese restaurants, karaoke bars and meditation facilities once the festival is over.

Tokyo Tourism Info website.
