Increasing numbers of British holidaymakers are planning ahead for the possibility of their luggage going missing, according to new research.
The study by insurer Swiftcover.com found that almost a third of families and couples take the precaution of splitting clothes among several cases and bags in case one of them goes missing during a journey.
A further 35 per cent pack a spare toothbrush and underwear, while 22 per cent said they would switch airlines if they discovered that their carrier had a bad reputation when it comes to lost luggage.
"The recent lost luggage league table shows this problem is still rampant and widespread, so it's good to see that many travellers are now taking whatever precautions they can to be prepared for their luggage being lost," commented Craig Staniland, director of underwriting at Swiftcover.com.
Last month, research by Halifax Travel Insurance found that rising numbers of Britons are taking single-sex holidays with their friends, with lost luggage cited as the greatest risk associated with such breaks, comprising 43 per cent of all travel problems listed by respondents.
