New figures have revealed a 9.6 per cent increase in passenger traffic at airports in
Europe during March compared with last year.
The research from Airports Council International showed that smaller airports with passenger traffic of less than five million passengers a year accounted for the highest growth during the month, including those in
Moscow and
Barcelona.
Other airports that enjoyed a significant level of growth in March included those in popular holiday destinations such as
Prague,
Madrid,
Dublin and
Paris.
A number of recent reports have indicated that the number of passengers using airports across the globe is generally on the rise, with operator BAA announcing last week that scheduled flight passengers at its UK airports increased by 0.1 per cent in April.
The International Air Transport Association has also said that demand for flights across the globe rose by 7.8 per cent in March.
