Travellers flying from
Edinburgh Airport are now being subjected to new security checks on liquids that are carried onto flights.
Liquids such as medicines and drinks are being tested for hazardous chemicals on a random basis to make sure that they pose no danger to fellow passengers.
The new process is expected to help make security procedures take place more speedily at the airport, particularly ahead of the busy summer holiday season over the coming months.
"The summer ahead is expected to be another record-breaker for us in terms of passenger numbers and passengers can do their bit to cut waiting times at security by making sure they are fully aware of the current restrictions before they get to our airport," commented David Johnston, managing director of Edinburgh Airport.
Current restrictions dictate that passengers carry one item of hand luggage through the airport search point. Only small quantities of liquids in separate containers are allowed through and these must be placed in a transparent plastic bag for easy examination by security officials.
