V-Flyer.com, an independent guide to flying with Virgin airlines, has announced that
Heathrow received a top honour at its annual award ceremony.
The V-Flyer awards, which give passengers the opportunity to vote for their favourite airport facilities, were announced at a champagne reception on the London Eye.
Heathrow was given the award for Best Clubhouse, while San Francisco was named the Best Airport.
One V-Flyer visitor said: "The Heathrow Clubhouse has always made me feel welcome.
"You step into an atmosphere of absolute tranquillity, completely forgetting about the usual stress involved in catching a flight."
Heathrow recently announced that, with five months of construction to go, workers had begun to clean its new Terminal 5 to prepare for its opening in 2008.
John Milford, Terminal 5 head of buildings, said that the facility would be "gleaming" by the time it opens its doors to passengers.
