The Karantena Festival held in Dubrovnik,
Croatia throughout August gives visitors the opportunity to experience unique music, theatre and dance performances.
Founded in 1996, the multimedia festival aims to promote urban and modern culture and artistry that are unlikely to be found at more mainstream events.
Described as Dubrovnik's "fringe" event, the Karantena Festival showcases a number of alternative mediums, including film production shown across the city.
Dating back to the seventh century, the old city of Dubrovnik boasts splendid architecture, a cathedral and churches within its walls.
Those taking a trip over to
Croatia can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Velebit Nature Park – a 2,000 sq km area of protected land.
This mountainous region, which offers "diversity" and "richness of plant and animal life", is sure to please nature lovers.
