Airport encourages passengers to lock baggage
To ensure that holidaymakers do not become the victims of crime, Coventry Airport is launching a scheme to urge passengers to keep their luggage safe and secure.
In partnership with local police and Crimestoppers, the airport has seen 1,000 free padlocks given out to passengers to secure their valuables, icCoventry reports.
Chris Orphanou, managing director of the airport, said: "While we have an exemplary crime record here it is all too easy for passengers, especially holidaymakers, to relax and forget about the important security aspects of travelling."
Sergeant Andrew Ware said that with passengers often carrying iPods, cameras and jewellery the scheme was aimed at tackling "opportunist" thieves.
Last October, the airport and Warwickshire police joined forces to tackle anti-social behaviour in the airport, to ensure the safety of people using its services.
Mr Orphanou said that the safety of the airport's passengers was "paramount" and preventing unacceptable behaviour was a key objective.
