Delta Air Lines is to launch new flights between
Edinburgh and JFK Airport in
New York from next May.
The carrier has announced that the new route will be introduced at the expense of its current non-stop operations to
Atlanta, which are set to cease this October.
This means that Delta will be pitted in direct competition with
Continental Airlines, which already offers services between Edinburgh and New York.
Edinburgh Airport managing director David Johnston commented: "The growth in the numbers of passengers flying transatlantic from Edinburgh also underlines the growing desire to fly non-stop to the USA from Scotland's capital city."
Delta announced earlier this week that it is to expand its international operations further by introducing non-stop flights between Atlanta and
Dubai and between New York and
Pisa this summer.
Altogether, the airline will be launching 14 new international routes during the summer months.
