Air Jamaica to scrap Heathrow-Jamaica route

Air Jamaica to scrap Heathrow-Jamaica route
Air Jamaica has announced that it is to stop flying between Heathrow Airport and Jamaica from October 28th this year.

Officials at the airline cited high costs and diminishing profits from the route as the main reasons behind the decision.

Any passengers who have already booked flights on the route after October 28th will be transferred over to a Virgin Atlantic flight without incurring extra charges.

"We are really disappointed that this decision has had to be made to close the route. Air Jamaica has been flying from London to Jamaica for 11 years and acknowledges in particular the importance of the Jamaican community in the UK who will be affected by the closure," commented Anne Deamer, UK and Europe general manager for Air Jamaica.

Virgin Atlantic announced last week that it is set to launch new flights to Kingston from Gatwick Airport this October.
