The airport in
Blackpool has today implemented its smoking ban a month ahead of the official national ban.
It said the terminal, related buildings and vehicles will now be completely smoke-free under the new forthcoming law regarding smoking in public places.
Officials at the airport stated that signs have been installed to let passengers know of the new ban and that the early introduction will let them solve any problems arising from the ban ahead of the law's enforcement on July 1st.
"We hope that by taking an early initiative ahead of the ban on July 1st, we are encouraging both passengers and employees to adhere to and introduce the necessary changes," commented Stephen Wiltshire, operations director at Blackpool International Airport.
Recent figures from the Civil Aviation Authority showed that passenger numbers at the airport leapt from 377,000 in 2005 to 553,000 last year.
